About Us
Lighthouse Educational Society (LES) is a South London based charity working to support children and young people through education, and to strengthen families and community life. We create welcoming spaces where people can learn, build confidence and feel connected, especially those facing disadvantage or barriers to opportunity.
What we do
Supporting learning and progress
We help children and young people with learning, confidence and aspirations through:
- supplementary education and small-group learning
- weekend school programs
- mentoring and positive role models
- exam and school transition support (where available)
- health and wellbeing services
- employability training programs & digital literacy
Bringing people together
We also run community events and activities that create connection and belonging, celebrating local community life and shared values.

Story
Lighthouse Educational Society started in 2005 with a simple belief that when people feel supported to learn and belong, communities become stronger. Over time, our work has grown through local branches, volunteers and partnerships, supporting children’s education and bringing people together through community activities.

Meet our team
Our organisation is supported by a dedicated core team of 17 members, including Area Managers, Outreach Coordinators, Weekend School Teachers, Head Office members, the CEO, the Managing Director, and the Project Coordination Team. Alongside them, we are proud to have 52 active volunteers who generously give their time, skills, and commitment to support our work. Together, our team and volunteers play a vital role in delivering our services, reaching communities, and making a positive impact.

Erdal D
Chair of the Trustee Board
A full-time Software Engineer at American Express and a former teacher. He plays a key role in managing the charity, particularly in overseeing the educational projects of LES and coordinating monthly trustee meetings.
Gulhan KB
Trustee
A Senior Quality Assurance Engineer, in the tech sector. She oversees projects related to parenting support, equal opportunities, and empowerment of girls and women, and contributes to financial oversight.
Bilal O
Trustee - Treasurer
An educator with 20 years of experience. He supports fundraising, especially for educational projects across South London and Kent.
